October Favorites

Hi pumpkins!!
Happy Halloween!!
It's that time again! October is officially over and November is here!! I struggled again this month to find my favorite products, and that is partially due to the fact that I made October a "No buying makeup" month (I know, I don't know what I was thinking)! It. Was. Tough. !!! Now, I'll be honest, I did pick up a lipstick or gloss once or twice, but I was able to stay away from high end makeup all month and I am very proud of myself! Haha! With the holidays coming up I know I will be spending more than usual, so I'm trying to behave a bit now!

My first favorite this month, Benefit Cosmetics Lemon Aide, has also been my lifesaver! I don't know about you guys but ever since summer ended the days and weeks have seemed wayyy lonnng  and are kicking my butt! I wake up to the darkest circles of life!! Concealer just isn't cuttin' it and this creamy yellow toned highlighter has seriously been my go-to everyday lately! It brightens my under eyes perfectly and makes me look WAY more awake than I really am! I think this is going to be a winter staple this year! ;)

Another eye favorite that has helped to keep my tired eyes looking perky is Milani's Shadow Eyez-12 Hour Wear Eyeshadow jumbo pencil in Champagne Toast! It is a gorgeous pink champagne color that I use all over my lid and inner corners of my eyes! By itself, It is a perfect and simple daytime look for work, or sometimes I top it with a powder shadow to help make the color pop and be more pigmented! This also really helps brighten my eyes when I use it in the inner corners! It's absolutely beautiful!

One of my favorite eyeshadows to top the Milani Shadow Eyez with is Mac's Mythology! Omg.. I am just freaking in love with this color! I bought it a while ago just because it was so pretty and I couldn't walk away from it! I figured it was a color that would be difficult to really use and it would just get lost in the shuffle. BUT, as it turned out, I love it and I'm totally obsessed with it! You guys, it's sooo unbelievably gorgeous! It's a shimmery pinkish red with the slightest hit of an orangey tone. It's really hard to explain and you probably just said "ew" to yourself, but I promise you it is so much prettier than it sounds! It's the perfect warm fall eyeshadow shade!

Another Mac product I have been loving is their Mineralize Rich Lipstick in Pure Pout! I really love the formula of this lipstick! It's super creamy and gives a slightly glossy finish to my lips which I think helps to balance out the nude color! It almost makes my lips appear fuller, which I love!

Speaking of fuller lips, I've also been on a huge lip liner kick lately! I haven't really worn lip liner in years, but with darker lip colors being very trendy this season, they have found a place in my life again! They are also great for the matte lip trend as well (easy to line and fill in for a quick, long lasting matte look). I actually have two favorites this month since I pretty much use both equally as often! The first is a Milani Color Statement Lip Liner pencil in Spice, which is perfect for fall! It's so versatile in that it can blended with so many lip shades (especially those 90s shades) and also goes great with a nudish lip when you want a slightly darker outline!

My other favorite is a Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in Natural! It's a retractable pencil which is great for on the go, since no sharpener is needed! This shade is just slightly lighter than my actual lip color so it makes it really easy to blend lipsticks and gives them something to hold on to so they last much longer! This lip liner also helps my lips to appear much fuller and plumper than they really are!

Earlier this month I decided to give my Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation (longest name ever) another try! I bought this in the Spring time and it just did not work with my skin at all! My skin is definitely at its oiliest during the Spring and Summer months, so it was just bad timing. Now that it's much cooler out and my skin is settling down and a tiny bit on the dryer side, this powder foundation definitely works for me! It goes on really nicely with my E.l.f flat powder brush and I just buff it into my skin. It gives me medium to fuller coverage and is very buildable! The best part about this is the fact that it doesn't make my face look cakey! Just smooth and flawless looking skin! Perfect for those lazy days when you want to skip a few steps in your routine!

Lately I've found that my hair has been super knotty when I get out of the shower and trying to comb it out is a daily battle! I've tried switching shampoos and conditioners  and none have made much of a difference! My one saving grace has been this Not Your Mothers's Way To Grow Leave-In Conditioner! It makes my hair feel super soft, but doesn't make it look totally flat and lifeless! In fact, I actually think I get a little more body and volume from it! My comb is finally gliding through my hair rather than getting stuck and tearing chunks out!! It's really inexpensive at $7.99 and works just as great as some of the high end leave-in conditioners I've used! Definitely worth giving a shot, especially as the dryer Winter months start to take their effect! :)

Now, this next favorite might seem a wee bit out of character for me... But, I think I have a slight obsession with flannel shirts!  Lol! I don't know how it started or why I suddenly feel like I need 20 of them, but I just do! I know they've been very trendy for the last few years, and that I'm really late to the game, but I can't get enough of them now! They have been my go to weekend look lately and are sooo comfortable! One of the reasons I love them is because they really can be dressed down and casual or dressed up a bit with some accessories! I've worn mine with yoga pants and flats, and sparkly jewelry and high heel boots! Perhaps myboyfriends style has started to rub off on me a bit, but I don't care, I love em (boyfriend and the shirts hehe)!

If you don't already know, besides makeup and beauty products, my other addiction is candles, especially from Bath & Body Works! Whenever the new scents come out I always feel like I need to have them all! And the 2 for $22 sales don't help with this feeling! I've picked up several this season and I'm trying to conserve as best as I can so they last me through Thanksgiving at least! But my absolute favorite ever has to be the new Vanilla Pumpkin Marshmallow one! I've only burned it once or twice, but that's because I never want it to end! It has a TON of throw to it, even when it is burned for only an hour or so! It's smells so warm and cozy while also smelling like I need to eat it! Lol! I really do think this is my favorite scent they have ever made if not my favorite candle of all time! Definitely get your hands on this ASAP (just save one for me cause I think I'm going to need another)! ;)

And last, but certainly not least.. Since today is Halloween I thought I would include my favorite Halloween candy! Butterfingers have always been a favorite of mine since I was little! Whenever my little cousin and I were allowed to get a candy bar, we both always chose Butterfingers! They almost seem like a peanut butter toffee to me! Which, let's be honest, what is there not to love about that! ;)

I hope you enjoyed reading about this months favorites! Even though it's been a slow makeup buying month for me, I'm sure I'll have plenty to share with you in the coming weeks and months! Holiday makeup sets are my favorite and from what I can tell, this year will definitely not be disappointing! Are there any holiday palettes or sets you are excited to try? I know I have quite an extensive list! :)

Target Beauty Box

Hello beauty lovers!
As you know from my last post, I am a bit obsessed with subscription box services lately! When I saw that Target was jumping on the beauty box bandwagon, I knew I had to have it! Com'on, it's Target! How could I not?
The Target Beauty Box isn't a monthly subscription but rather a one time purchase. I love this because you can decided whether or not you want to purchase the box based upon what products are being sent, which is something you can't really do with other beauty boxes. I purchased mine and received the box a little less than two weeks later! I really, really, really love the idea of these boxes! I think the value of the box is fabulous considering that for a measly $7 (which includes shipping) you get full sized items and very deluxe sized sample products! I also love that the boxes are basically all the same with the exception of the products only varying by color!
The product I was most excited about was the L'Oreal Colour Riche Extraordinaire Lip Color! I am a huge fan of these and already have them in a handful of  colors! Honestly, these sell for $8-$10 alone, so the box more than pays for itself in this one product! I received the color Ruby Opera which is a gorgeous red color that borders on a mix of true red and brick red (but not super dark). I didn't have this color in my collection so I was really happy! I think it will be the perfect red color for the holiday season!
The next product I was really excited to try was the L'Oreal Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold Hair Spray! Seriously.. this stuff runs about $14.99 for a full sized bottle. Granted this is just a small (but deluxe) sample at 2.2oz, but I've heard great things about it and have been wanting to try it for a while now! I'm glad I can sample it now without having to commit to a $15 bottle of something I might hate!
I've also been on a bit of a jumbo eye pencil kick lately, so I was glad to see that this box had a Nyx one! I basically love everything Nyx, so I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. I received the color Milk (604), which I will probably use as an eyeshadow base or along my inner water line to brighten my eyes!
I do like to use a dry shampoo on occasion, so I wasn't upset to see a deluxe sized same of Fekkai Professional Blowout Hair Refresher Dry Shampoo. I have super thin and basically lifeless hair, so sometimes I like to tszuj it up a little bit with dry shampoo! I typically apply a little to my roots near my crown and my bangs so it helps to add a bit of texture and grip to my hair when it's squeaky clean!

The last item, Laneige BB Cushion, was one that I have never heard of before, but according to Target's website, it is exclusive to Target. We all know I'm not a fan of BB Creams, but I will give this a shot since the website states that it "prevents shine". I'm skeptical, but we shall see! Plus, it's always fun to try new things! :)

Overall, I am really happy with the Target Beauty Box! I love the idea and think the value is really great! I seriously hope they keep doing these because the price is definitely right for me and I will probably continue to purchase them as they release new ones!

If you subscribe to (or purchase) any beauty boxes or other types of boxes, I would love to hear about them! I'm always looking to try new ones!

As always, thanks so much for reading!

Chocolate Stout Cupcakes with Salted Caramel Buttercream Frosting

Hi loves!
Guess what I made?! Chocolate Stout Cupcakes with Salted Caramel Buttercream! My little cousins have been BEGGING me to make these cupcakes for about a year now! I don't know why, but I just never got around to making them! Well, a few weeks ago, my little cousin got some very good news, so I promised her and her sister that I would finally make their beloved cupcakes for them to celebrate!
While these are a little time consuming, they aren't very difficult! And the time spent is well worth it, because they're always a huge hit!

Here is what you'll need for the cupcakes:
1 Cup of Stout (I used Rogue Chocolate Stout)
1 Cup of Unsalted Butter (2 Sticks)
3/4 Cup of Cocoa Powder
2 Cups of All Purpose Flour
2 Cups of Sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons of Baking Soda
3/4 teaspoon of Salt
2 Large Eggs
2/3 Cup of Sour Cream

Here is what you'll need for the Frosting:
1/2 Cup of Solid Vegetable Shortening
1/2 Cup of Butter (softened)
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
4 Cups of Confectioners Sugar
2 Tablespoons of Milk
1/3 Cup of Caramel + extra for drizzling

Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and prepare cupcake pans with 24 liners
2. In a large saucepan on the stove, bring stout and butter to a simmer over medium heat.
3. Add cocoa powder to saucepan and whisk thoroughly to combine with butter and stout mixture until smooth.
4. Remove from heat and allow mixture to cool down a bit.
5. In a large bowl, combine, flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt until combined. Set aside.
6. In a separate bowl, beat eggs and sour cream (in a stand mixer or with a hand mixer) just slightly until combined.
7. Add stout, butter, and cocoa mixture to egg and sour cream mixture and beat just until combined.
8. Slowly add flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt mixture and beat slowly until combined.
9. Fill cupcake liners with batter about 2/3 of the way full.
10. Bake for 18-22 minutes or until inserted toothpick comes out clean.
11. Remove cupcakes from oven and allow to cool on a baking rack completely.
12. While cupcakes are cooling, beat shortening, butter, and vanilla extract in the bowl of a stand mixture until combined and creamy.
13. Slowly add confectioners sugar and beat until well combined.
14. Add milk as needed to reach desired consistency.
15. Add caramel to buttercream mixture and beat until well combined.
16. Frost cooled cupcakes.
17. Drizzle with remaining caramel (optional)

Just as I thought, everyone loved the cupcakes at our family get together and my little cousins were excited to finally have their wish fulfilled! These are perfect for a special get together with friends or family, and go over big with both kids and adults! Hope you enjoy this recipe!

Thanks for reading!

October Ipsy Bag

Hi everyone!
I'm kind of obsessed with subscription beauty boxes lately! I subscribed to Birchbox for over a year, but recently cancelled my subscription so that I could try a few other services. Now, there is nothing wrong with Birchbox, in fact I've had a few gems come from my Birchboxes, I just started feeling like I was getting a lot of the same things every month. So it was time to change it up a bit!
I chose to subscribe to Ipsy because I felt like they sent more from brands I really like and purchase from often. It is the same price as the Birchbox subscription ($10 a month) and you get a small makeup bag (or "Glam Bag") each month! I have to say I was really happy with my first Ipsy bag!
First, lets talk about this months adorable bag! It is so pretty! It's is a small, quilted, teal/ greenish-blue, faux patent leather bag! It is the perfect size to throw in your purse, keep in your office desk, or keep in your car! I especially love the placement of the zipper on this bag and it makes for a really nice and "different" type of design!

The first item in my bag was this gorgeous Nicole by OPI Nail Lacquer in On A Guilt Trip! It is a beautiful gold color with tiny flecks of shimmer and glitter. I was really happy to see this in my bag since I really like Nicole by OPI polishes! I think this will be a great color for the upcoming holidays! ;)

Next item in my bag was a deluxe sample sized lipstick by Noyah. This brand was completely new to me, but I was very pleasantly surprised by it! The lipstick is a perfect color for fall and definitely plays into the whole 90's grunge lipstick trend that is happening right now! In fact, the color reminds me a lot of Gerard Cosmetics 1995 lipstick by Jaclyn Hill! It is very creamy, super pigmented and really feels like a great quality product! I'm really looking forward to wearing this more!

This next item actually blew me away! I'll explain- It is Skone Cosmetics Tatooed Waterproof Eyeliner. It is a black liquid liner pen with a felt tip and it seems to be the most long lasting liquid eyeliner I have ever come across! When I was going going through the bag and swatching everything for the first time, I drew a couple of lines on my hand with this. It dried really quickly and I didn't think anything of it and just kind of left it there while I did some baking that night. I was in the kitchen baking for about 3 hours and doing countless mountains of dishes and at the end of the night when I was finished cleaning up I noticed the liner lines again. OMG.. they didn't budge or fade at all!! They were still perfect- hence the blown away part! I haven't had a chance to try this on my eyes yet, but I am super excited to see how this holds up!
I also received a small jar of Ayres Patagonia Body Butter. I'm not a huge fan of body butters for moisturizers (I don't know why, just not my thing-maybe just too thick for me) but this one smells really fresh and clean and almost like an aromatherapy product. It also seemed to be a little on the thinner side for a body butter, which is a good thing for me! Seeing as chillier days are finally upon us (which means super dry skin for me) I will probably be using this one before bed!
The final item in my bag was an Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser. This too smells very fresh and clean! I'm really excited to try this one, especially because (like I said) the colder weather is coming and anything that can help with dry, dull, winter skin is appreciated!

Overall, I was really happy with my October Ipsy bag! It seemed to me that the products they featured this month were very "Fall" appropriate and I actually see myself using everything! If you're interested in subscribing to Ipsy see my referral link below! For just $10 a month, it's always fun to see what these subscription boxes send every month! I highly recommend giving it a try!

Review: theBalm- Smoke Balm Eyeshadow Palette

Hi guys!
Just a quick review today! I've had this palette laying around for a while now and for whatever reason, I just never used it. Not even once! Possibly because the eyeshadow colors seemed more Fall like to me.. I don't know. BUT... a few days ago I was reorganizing some of my makeup and came across it, tucked away in a drawer. I decided to leave it out in arms reach and give it a go sooner or later!
Well.. I finally decided to use it Friday night when we were getting together with some friends and I wanted to get all dolled up! Oh. My. God.!!! I was soooo in love with the look I was able to get with this little trio palette! The shadows are unbelievable and applied like a dream! The formula is just such a great quality! They are very pigmented, which I love, but lets talk about blending... They were so so easy to blend! No harsh lines or smudge marks, just beautiful blended glory!
I'm obsessed and have decided I definitely need more of theBalm's eyeshadows in my life! The fun part is that Kohls now sells the line in their stores and online (which is actually where I got this palette a few months ago).
Here are the swatches and the look I created!

Kindle: Used this shade all over the lid. It's a gorgeous almost mix of a dark emerald and peacock green. It is a satin finish with just a tiny bit of sparkle to it! So pretty and made my blue eyes pop!

Glow: Quite possibly the most perfect crease shade that I have come across in a LONG time! Its not too dark, its not orangey, its just a perfect light brown tone! I think I would even pull this little palette out just to use this color in my crease on other eye looks! Beautiful and I'm totally obsessed!

Combust: I used this one two different ways.. On my brow bone for highlight as a pretty, soft, satin goldish color, and I also used it wet in the inner corners of my eyes to really make it pop and then blended it in with the greenish color, Kindle just in the inner corner of the lid. I was so happy with the way it turned out! Absolutely loved it and found that it was easily used wet or dry!

I finished the look with a black eyeliner and a few coats of mascara on my top and bottom lashes. I love the drama that I got out of this look, but also loved how it wasn't so super dark or harsh like some smokey eyes can be. I finished with a simple plum toned cheek to play off the greenish color and a very simple nude lip!

I will definitely be checking out some more of theBalm's collection, especially now that it is so accessible in my local Kohl's stores! I cannot wait to get my hands on more of this of this stuff!!

Review: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette

Hi loves!
Hope you are all doing well!
I am super excited about today's review!! I have been drooling over this Hourglass palette for months now and I recently decided to take the plunge and order it! I literally used to go and "visit" it in Sephora! ;)
I have been wanting to try their Ambient Lighting Powders for so long, and I was so happy when I saw this palette! A full sized powder compact of a single shade runs $45, so I loved the fact that this palette came with three smaller (but still decent sized) shades for $58! The center shade, Incandescent Light is also exclusive to this palette!
These powders are so soft and almost pillowy (if that even makes sense) and they create the most beautiful glow to the skin! I love to use mine as a highlight on my brow bones, cheek bones, and center of my forehead! They aren't chalky at all like some highlighting powders can be! But more than just highlighting your skin they give a nice soft focus to your skin that perfects it!

Radiant Light- I've only used this one a few times. It definitely gives a warmer glow than the other two and is beautiful in its own right. I find that I would probably use this in areas I want to look more sunkissed since it is slightly on the bronze side.
Incandescent Light- I love this shade for a brighter more awake look! It gives me a more "highlighted" glow but is still soft and doesn't look "overdone"! Love this one on the brow bone and inner corner of my eyes/ really just to brighten the whole eye area!
Dim Light- This one is probably the one I use most. I love the  soft glow that this give me! It reminds me of being in constant candle light all day long! And lets be real... what woman doesn't want that?!

Overall, I really do love all of the shades in this palette so far! They are the perfect addition to my makeup collection and routine. They almost make me feel fancier when I use them! Lol is that weird for me to say? ;)
Incandescent Light on brow bones, cheek bones, center of forehead and cupids bow

Hope you enjoyed this review! As always, thanks so much for reading!

September Favorites!

Hello Beauties!
Wow.. September has flown by! Like... I blinked and it was over! It was a really busy month but a very exciting one at the same time! This past weekend the boy and I went to an amazing wedding for our very good friends! It was such a beautiful ceremony and and we had so much fun celebrating with them and all of our friends at the reception! We could not be happier for them and wish them all the best! They really are an amazing couple and totally deserve it!
Since this month has gone by so fast, I was (once again) stumped when I started thinking about what my favorite products have been. It feels like I've been consistently using a lot of the same things from last month, but as usual I rounded up a few new things to share with you! Once I get going, I feel like I can't stop, so I'll try to narrow it down to the best of the month! ;)

First up is Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation. It is officially the time of year where I am back to wearing full foundation on a daily basis! If I'm being totally honest, this is quite possibly the BEST foundation I have ever used. The price is a little steep for such a small bottle, but it is totally worth it. I typically apply this with a damp beauty blender and I love the look I get! A little bit goes a long way when I apply it this way too! It is not thick or cakey at all and is extremely long wearing. I don't get oily or shiny with this foundation at all! I'm basically obsessed and have been wearing this on the weekends and nights out with the boy or my friends (I wouldn't dare waste it on work days Haha!). If you are looking for a great foundation, I would definitely try this one out! This will definitely be a repurchase for me!

At the beginning of the month I picked up a new Mac Paint Pot in Vintage Selection. I've been pretty obsessed with Mac Paint Pots for the last year or so, but this one might be my favorite one I have. Ugh it is sooo pretty. I would describe the color of the this Paint Pot as "Pink Champagne". It has a gorgeous shimmer to it with very very fine sparkle that catches the light beautifully! Sometimes I just wear this on my lid and nothing else! I also love to use it as a primer and find that it really works well with several different shades of eyeshadow. It's very versatile because of the pink champagney tone! I just love everything about it!

Last week I posted about my new absolute favorite black eyeliner! This has definitely been a HUGE favorite this month! Simply put, this stuff is just amazing! It goes on so smoothly and is easily smudged or blended, but the best part is that it stays in place and is super long wearing! In fact, the Bride and I both wore this eyeliner during the wedding this weekend (she bought it after seeing me wear it a few weeks ago) and it totally held up for both of us during more than a few tearful moments! :)

As far as my nails go, I have been loving a very particular combination of polishes together. This all kind of came about when I was looking for a nail look for the wedding and trying out some different ones to see if I could achieve the look I was after. My dress had silver gemstones on the shoulder, so I wanted to stick with having silver accents and accessories. The only problem was I didn't want metallic silver nails (like I would have worn in middle school) I wanted something more mature and appropriate, but still fun and sparkly!
I came across this grayish nude color from Essie in Master Plan and it was exactly what I was looking for!
I knew I wanted a little bit of sparkle (or bling as my boyfriend called it) and found the perfect silver sparkle polish by OPI in In True Stefani Fashion! With some help from a few light gel polishes, I was able to create a fun and really pretty nail look that I loved! Because of the gel polishes this look also held up through all of the packing, rushing, and traveling for the wedding! If you're interested in a nail tutorial, definitely let me know! ;)

I've also been experimenting with matte lipsticks a lot this month! Some are more comfortable or last longer than others, but so far I am loving this trend! My favorites so far have been the Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lip Colors! It took me forever to find these! All of the shelves and displays in stores near me were completely bare, but once I did get my hands on them I pretty much fell in love! They are so comfortable on the lips and have great staying power! They don't make my lips feel dry or cakey like some of the other matte lip products I have tried recently. I love how pigmented these are and the color literally stays all day long! I chose the colors Touch of Spice and Lust For Blush and I love both of them for Fall! If the matte lip trend is something you are interested in trying, I would definitely give these a shot!

This past month I've also been really into face masks! I love face masks because they are typically an inexpensive little luxury! You can easily find a great face mask for under $5 in most drug stores and I always see tons of (inexpensive but great quality) one time use packets in stores from Sephora to Target! I used three different masks this month, but my favorite was one that I got in Sephora! I recently came across a line of Sephora Collection face masks when I was in the store a few weeks ago and was very intrigued! I picked up the Green Tea Mattifying & Anti-Blemish (you know I'll try anything that claims to mattify)! These are natural fiber masks that you drape over your face and they have little cutouts where your eyes and mouth go. I love mask like this because they are super easy! Just put it on and relax! Couldn't be any easier! I found that this made my skin feel super soft afterwards and I do think it actually did help to keep my skin matte the next day! For $6 I think these are a great bargain and there are so many to choose from! I will definitely be picking up more of these next time I'm in the store!

As most of you have already figured out, Fall is my absolute favorite time of year! I love everything about it! Especially picking out everything pumpkin scented! My obsession with Bath & Body Works candles gets a little out of control this time of year and so far, Fall 2014 has been no exception! I think this might actually be their best year yet! I picked up so many great candles during the 2 for $22 sale this past month, but my favorite this month has been Spiced Pumpkin Cider! For me this is the quintessential September candle scent! I mostly get an apple cider smell from this with just a hint of the pumpkin smell in the background of the notes! September always screams apples to me, but I often find some apple scented things to be too sour or artificial smelling. This candle gets it just right though! Its crisp but still cozy for the cooler nights we've been having! I just love it!

Another apple product I have been really loving is Ulta's Fairest Of Them All Apple Cobbler Sugar Scrub! Fist of all, it smells amazing- I love the sweet and sugary apple scent! I always love a great shower scrub and I love the way this one makes my skin feel. I really feel like it exfoliates well but also leaves my skin feeling silky soft and moisturized after! I think Ulta has done a great job lately with their newer bath products from their store brand! I have yet to be disappointed in any of the products I've tried in more recent months! If you're looking for some great and affordable bath products be sure to check out their collection!

So that about wraps up September! I feel like the rest of this year is going to fly by even faster now and it will soon be the holidays! Crazy! I do love this time of year though and I'm super excited to see what October will bring to my world of baking and beauty products!

As always, thanks so much for reading, you guys are the best!
